CHINAHOUSE @ THE OLD COURTHOUSE: CAFE EPISODES

Over the past few years there has been an uprising of the number of cafes in Kuching. It has become popular hangouts for a lot of people, especially the young and restless. This cafes becomes the haven for teenagers and young adults alike. For the reasoning that there is food and comfortable places to relax and the ability to do as you please. Not the mention the late hours it seems to host to.

Chinahouse Cafe has become popular for the fact that it has something different to offer than the rest of the cafes in town. It has taken quarters in the old courthouse in town, right opposite the chinatown. I think the name might have been a nod to the address of it's location, but that's just a guess. There is probably alot of other factors into the namesake.

So as you know, the old court always has been home to many restaurants and cafes. Changing times have made the cafes and restaurants move away their business but the location that is the old courthouse is a picturesque and ideal address. It is where much of the nightlife is, not to mention the amount of tourist in the area. It also is a great place for a nice instagram picture.

The cafe is deep inside the courthouse along with many other cafes in the space. But there is signs to help you on your way.

I've ventured in on the tip of my friend, my co writer of themakanpost, Jolynn. The chinahouse cafe is known for their cakes and tea. The tiramisu is particularly famous. I have chosen the one doused in liquor, for I think cakes and liquor goes very well together.

It was delicious with the alcohol bringing out the flavours in there. The sponge layer was moist and the cream with the texture of the crunchy nuts. the caramelised nuts, I think pistachio was wonderfully well paired.

I'm also a fan of the teapot that they have given me. It was adorable.

So we have the place which is decorated with old furniture and everything antique. It can't be help that the decoration is something familiar. There is also the many drawings around the space. It has come to known to us that at every table there are crayons and paper for those with an artistic side to create a picture if inspiration comes to them. There is also a competition going on for the one with probably the most votes.

The cafe is also a bar, offering cocktails and alcoholic beverages.

The atmosphere in this space is wonderful. There were many patrons though it was late at night. The staff were welcoming and warm. I have no complains about the place. But I will however come back to try the many savoury items on the menu.

It is open everyday from 9 am to 12 pm. It is located at the old courthouse, next to merdeka plaza.

This is Sharon signing off this week's food post. Stay tune every week for more.
