TOP 8 MUST EATS AT KUCHING FEST 2016

Kuching Food Festival also known with the hashtag #KchFest, is an annual big event for Kuchingites. More than a hundred stalls selling varieties of food every year is what makes this happening event ever so popular. This is where food from all over the world, from the not-so-bizzares to the most bizarres, from the not-so-hipsters to hipsters are shared to everyone. But for the love of food with the tremendous number of stalls to choose from, where should one begin with?

This week, The Makan Post sets out to try as many popular and weird eats, to bring to you our list of TOP 8 MUST EATS AT KUCHING FEST 2016.

1. Fried Fresh Milk

Despite its rather odd name that makes one start to wonder about the possibilities of a drink to be deep fried, this remains as a popular item in #Kchfest2016. It has a milky pudding-like texture, with a crispy layer of batter on the outside.

2. Frozen Snacks

Its name describes itself. Snacks, frozen with nitrogen, aimed to give out cool-looking smoke when eaten. Definitely deserves to be the first on hipster food ranking.

3. Nasi Lemak Ice Cream

This one might be a no-no for the less adventurous eaters. Definitely one bizzare food item in #kchfest2016. It's basically coconut and rice flavoured ice cream, served with fried anchovies and sambal on the side. It might seem weird, but we found that its a really good match together and that it actually works.

4. Taka Lava Cheese Tarts

Lava cheese tarts have been a trend lately especially in #kchfest, and there are at least 3 or more stalls selling them this year. We got to try all of them and to us, Taka has the best one. Crispy and buttery tart base with cheesy and oozy lava filling, a definite winner!

5. Beer Cheese Soup

Another interesting item, a combination of beer and cheddar. The seller mentioned one has to have an acquired taste as the combination itself might taste weird. First, you should be able to taste the beer, followed by the zing of the sharp cheddar coming through, then last, the herbs.

6. Yummy Yang Egg Tart

If you love portugese egg tarts, this shop is a must to try. Their flaky and fragrant tarts and fluffy egg fillings are a favourite for many. This shop also sells Japanese Cheese Cakes and durian flavoured tarts and cakes as well.

7. Mongolian Master

This stall has been around since last year, and still maintains their food items. They are known for their long skewered meat such as lamb, pork and chicken. They are grilled r8ght infront of you, juicy and well marinated. They also offer grilled seafood and some herbal soups here.

8. Poop Ice Cream

Lastly, the most talked about item in this year's #kchfest, the poop ice cream. With the stall's name as The Biggest Challenge, it is definitely a challenge for a few, to be able to eat chocolate truffles that is shaped to look like poop, sitting on a small cup of cheesecake. There are 3 flavours to choose from, lemon, matcha and chocolate.

If you have not been to Kuching Fest 2016, it is still going on for a few more weeks. Don't miss out on these interesting 8 food items!
